In our forums, our members have been reacting to Nick Faldo’s short tee idea. Faldo initially promoted the banning of all tees and reducing clubhead size as a solution to the distance issues in the professional game. The analyst has now been suggesting a move to a limited tee size could make a significant impact. Our members have been reacting in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Emthree: “Does it really solve the issue? Attack angle is not the only way to achieve optimum launch conditions. They’ll just swing steeper, with more loft and counter that by developing a ball with a new compound that spins even less when you hit driver and engage the core and still spins about the same when you engage the outer layers on wedge shots.”
  • Hawkeye77: “He sounded a little foolish, then someone pointed out they are limited to 4 inches. He only seemed to be talking about players teeing it high vs analyzing equipment, but maybe that was supposed to be implied somehow. Sounded awkward, IMO.”
  • TLUBulldogGolf: “Tee height feels very artificial, head size will do next to nothing unless you are doing something drastic like halving it, and even then I have doubts. I think nerfing the ball is the only change that makes sense. If you make it spin more, they will just adjust equipment to make it spin less. Could be some spillover effects to forgiveness there idk. I think using Torrey as an example when talking distance doesn’t make a ton of sense considering the course can play up to 7800 yards. The conditions that made it difficult seem specific to the time of year, I would expect the US Open to look a lot different, though it will still be difficult.”
  • EddieEdwards: “Faldo also believes square toe shoes increase distance….”
