In our forums, our members have been reacting to the news that Dustin Johnson won’t be competing at the 2021 Olympics. Johnson skipped the 2016 Olympics, and has now removed himself from 2021 Tokyo, saying
“It’s right in the middle of a big stretch of golf for me, so that was the reason I was kind of waffling on it a little bit. It’s a lot of traveling at a time where it’s important for me to feel like I’m focused playing on the PGA Tour.”
Johnson added that he would definitely have considered competing at the event had there been more time between tournaments.
Our members have been sharing their thoughts on DJ’s decision, with some mixed opinions floating about in our forums.

- Justsomeguy: “If he’s being honest with himself, he’ll regret it one day. Too unique of an opportunity. Everybody remembers Justin Rose won gold. He’s already rich and top of the class. I could see it being a harder decision if he was really just starting to make a name and needed to play x tourneys to keep his card.”
- Bye: “I think he has made a smart decision. The end of the season is busy, especially if the Ryder Cup goes ahead. Flying to the UK for the Open, then on to the Olympics, back for the close of the season.”
- miamistomp: “It is an honor to represent your country in the Olympics- that is universal Casual watchers don’t give a rat’s butt over Ryder or Prez cup. DJ ain’t hurting for money- Would not care if he never wins again.”
- MattuO1984: “Good on DJ for coming out and saying that he is not going to play. I can’t see that a gold medal is going to make much of a difference in his career. A nice footnote or and also section but nothing more than that. It’s cool that golf is in the Olympics, but last time around, I paid little to no attention to it, and I suspect that it will be the same this time around.”
