GolfWRX Spotted: Rory McIlroy testing SuperStroke grip; changes putters again

Rory McIlroy has recently hired swing coach Pete Cowen to his ‘performance team’ as he looks to regain form, but rather than any swing changes, it’s a significant change on the greens that we’ve spotted ahead of this week’s WGC Match Play.

The Irishman has been spotted with a SuperStroke Pistol GT grip at Austin CC this week. Per the company, the grips are designed to help golfers lock in their upper hand position with the brand’s ‘No Taper Technology’ helping to maintain even grip pressure and boost stroke consistency.

It is believed to be the first time McIlroy has ever used a SuperStroke grip, and it’s not the only change worth noting that the 32-year-old appears to be making this week in Austin.

McIlroy looks to have ditched the TaylorMade TP Juno he had been using recently and looks set to put the TalorMade Spider X flat-stick back in play as he attempts to win the WGC Match Play for the second time in his career.

The Irishman has been plagued by inconsistency with the putter this season and currently ranks 105th for Strokes Gained: Putting in 2020/21.
