In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.
Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.
TaylorMade PSi testing
HipCheck wrote: “Recently, 5 GolfWRX members were chosen to test TaylorMade PSi irons. Normally, testers would send their specs and receive their clubs so after. This time, TaylorMade took it a step further and had each member properly fit by TaylorMade staff into their PSi irons. They’ll add their TaylorMade fitting sessions and PSi iron reviews shortly.”
Neilcsd was the first to post a thoughtful, insightful take on his fitting with TMag, and others have followed suit. As a combined PSi review and narrative of a cool experience, this thread is a must read (and it has pictures!).
Best blades you’ve every played?
The first question regarding this thread: Which is better the topic (the best blade irons you’ve ever played) or the handle of the thread starter: Sir Edward of Putternut?
While you ponder that, we’ll just say that if you’re a passionate purist and lover of the traditional forged iron, you have to get in on this discussion and sing the praises of your old Wilsons or Mizunos.
The most disruptive innovation in the golf industry?
Whether it’s the move from the feathery to the gutta percha ball or from persimmon to titanium club heads, the history of golf and golf equipment has always been one of innovation. User tlejiva started an awesome thread with the question, “What do you guys think is the most disruptive innovation in golf industry in the history?”
Tiger swing video analysis
You knew when Tiger Woods tweeted a video hitting a soft 9-iron at a simulator screen — the first visual evidence of his swing in months — there would be analysis (in addition to jubilation that the former No. 1 is upright).
And there are few better places to talk shop about the golf swing than the GolfWRX forums. Ten pages and 276 posts long at the time of this writing, the breakdown of/commentary on TW’s “progressing nicely” video doesn’t disappoint.
Players you want to like but can’t
We don’t like to go negative here at GolfWRX, and this thread wasn’t created to rip Zach Johnson, as it’s originator clearly states. But rather — as tannyhoban makes clear in this exploding thread — it’s an attempt to figure out why golf fans sometimes have trouble liking players they objectively ought to like. And certainly, this is something that extends to athletes in other sports and public figures at large.
As tannyhoban writes: “Every time I see his mug on the screen I have an immediate negative reaction. Everything I’ve read and heard about him, including his own interviews, he seems like a pretty good character. And yet. There it is, I just can’t stand him and I know its not rational.”
He wants to like ZJ. He should like ZJ. He just can’t. Check out the thread for more of a truly interesting discussion of the phenomenon.
