Official GolfWRX Masters discussion thread

SpiethMasters2016

Every week in the Tour Talk forum, WRXers banter about the week’s tournament. The takes are hot and the opinions are (almost always!) reasoned and well informed. The Masters discussion this week is superb, and you’ll want to follow along all week long. There’s no better companion to Jim Nantz’s dulcet tones than this thread.

The Masters thread–already 30 pages long–is blowing up. Join the discussion.

What would you serve at the Masters Champions Dinner?

527952745SH00420_The_Master

A pretty self-explanatory thread here, but one with no shortage of stellar replies. Mackepa started the thread, writing,  “If you hypothetically won the Masters what would you pick to eat for your Champions dinner? My meal would probably consist of some variation of steak, lobster macaroni and cheese and probably grilled asparagus served with Bloody Mary’s preferably. Dessert would have to be Gaeter’s ice cream from Cincinnati!”

Let us know what you would serve, and see what other WRXers had to say.

A bit of info on Aldila’s NV 2KXV…

“Aldila’s patented NexGen Micro Laminate Technology™ is comprised of ultra-thin layers of premium grade materials oriented to maximize distance and accuracy.  This design revolution eliminates inconsistent shots caused by shaft variability, providing superior feel.  The unique design of the NV 2KXV also features a higher balance point making it ideal for use in todays heavier club head designs.  PGA Tour tested, PGA Tour proven.   The new Aldila NV 2KXV is available in 2 launch profiles.  The standard launch Green model offering a low-mid launch shaft promoting lower spin.  The Orange model features a slightly softer tip for a higher ball flight.  Both NV 2KXV models have a MSRP of $299.”

$1K Titleist driver?

Iau9oAt

A grand for a Titleist driver? Seems insane, and well afield of the company’s usual offerings. But as user cvhookem63 writes: “Last week it was hinted at that a major golf company was going to dabble into the “luxury club” realm. It looks like that company is Titleist. News came out this morning about a new offering from Titleist that hit the conforming list. IF released to the public it would cost upwards of $1000….The driver is being called the Titleist C16 (C for Concept) Driver and it includes the company’s first movable weight. I wonder how long it will be before we see this being used on tour.”

See what they’re saying in the forums (including how the club could possible cost $1,000).

If you could rewrite history at one major championship…

retief_t640

18th Legion not only started a great thread, but he offered a 10-tournament list of his own that’s worth reading. Here’s what he had to said, as well as the first few entries from his list (see the thread for the rest).

“If you could change the outcome of past Major Tournaments, which ones were your biggest heartbreaks that you would rewrite? Maybe your favorite lost, maybe you wanted to see history made. Maybe you wanted to see someone finally come through, or you just didn’t care for the winner.”

“In most of mine it was about my favorite two golfers Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson, both or at least Greg can be described as a Hard Luck Loser in Majors, although he is still one of history’s top golfers. Greg needed a Masters more than a PGA or U.S. Open, and Phil at least one U.S. Open out of six runner-ups. I’m not saying all 10 below should be written, but am listing in order of importance to me”

Here are Legion’s first entries.

T10. 1983 US Open (Winged Foot) – Fuzzy Zoeller over Greg Norman: At least this was a Playoff, not a miracle shot or collapse.

T10. 1989 Open Championship (Royal Troon) – Mark Calcavecchia over Greg Norman: Norman shot course record to get into playoff, but couldn’t quite beat one of Golf’s biggest jerks.

9. 2004 US Open (Shinnecock Hills) – Retief Goosen over Phil Mickelson: More that Retief won than Phil lost, Goosen birdied the 16th hole and Mickelson double-bogeyed the par-3 17th.
