In our forums, our members have been discussing an interaction from Saturday’s coverage of the Open involving Paul Azinger and Nick Faldo. During a segment at the Championship, Azinger told Faldo:
“You had [Greg Norman’s] number, bud. You gave him the all time backhand at the Masters” before making a whipped sound effect.

WRXer ‘Big Cat 3’ was not best pleased with the jibe and kicked off the discussion with his strong take, saying:
“We know it’s kick Greg Norman time again, and rightly so, he rarely doesn’t deserve it. But that harsh comment by Zingy regarding Faldo ‘giving him the ultimate backhand’ was spoken with such anger and malice … it was completely irresponsible during these times and unprofessional, to say the least. Not that we would expect anything other from him. But at least respect the game and the broadcasting profession.”
And our members have been responding to both Big Cat 3’s opinion as well as the short clip in our forum, with the vast majority fully behind Azinger.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Retsof2021: “Honestly, that was my favorite comment from the broadcast. I almost spit out my coffee. I also enjoyed them together. I’m not a fan of Zinger alone, but for some reason, it worked with both of them together (at least in my eyes).”
- jordan2240: “I’d heard Zinger and Faldo together before and always thought that was when they were both at their best. As for that comment, it did make me cringe for a moment, as Norman actually gave himself the backhand in that Masters, which I’m surprised Faldo didn’t note in response.”
- ob1soccer: “I don’t think zinger did or said anything wrong. Everyone gets offended so easily these days.”
