Today’s Forum Thread of the Day was submitted by oz dee cee, who asks fellow GolfWRX members which professional golfer they feel has over-achieved in their career. The thread has invoked plenty of stimulating debate on the subject, with some big names getting a mention.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Jackhammer993: “Of people still playing today I’m going to say Brooks Koepka. Three majors in a very short period but I don’t think he wins another. He’s just not a golfing talent like some of the guys out there. I know some if not many will disagree, but that’s my pick, and I’m sticking to it.”
- Superbrit: “Padraig Harrington is the absolute Epitome of an overachieving golfer, he even says it himself if you ever watch The Open special he did. Zach Johnson is definitely up there. I would even say Vijay Singh as well; I don’t think anyone expected him to win as much as he did. And what do they all have in common, they all work their absolute butts off!”
- LeftDaddy: “I’d agree with Spieth and Zach Johnson…guys that if you looked at their games and saw them on the range, you wouldn’t necessarily peg them as multiple major winners. I’ll add a “controversial” one. Tiger Woods. Yes, his reputation preceded him even from his very young days, and yes he was anointed the next great one before he turned pro…but, to be put in that category and then go out and live up to all of the hype and then some…that is what I call overachieving. He’s one of the 3 or 4 best golfers in the history of the game (I’d say he’s #1 or #2)…that is by definition an over-achiever in my opinion.”
- Bourni1: “Seems like most of the examples of “overachievers” given are shorter hitters, which opens the distance debate because these overachievers are all tacticians. I will add GMac, and I suspect Jordan Spieth may have overachieved.”
