Today from the Forums, WRXers are asked an interesting question from AngryKoreanMan – are bigger irons easier to hit? For AngryKoreanMan, the opposite has been true who says “When I see bigger head face in address, I kinda lose confidence because it’s just too big and not sure if I can hit middle of the club. When I hit smaller ones, I feel safer.” Our members have been discussing the topic in our forums with the vast majority siding with the opening poster’s view.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- gdb99: “It’s not just you. Just play the head you like the looks of best. It will give you confidence. Don’t worry what kind of iron it is. I have a set of blades I play once in a while. Shot -5 with them a couple of years ago. I just like looking at bigger faces, so I play my AP1’s most often.”
- ShallowbutDeadly: “You have to go with what suits your eye. Difference is the size of the sweet spot. Small forged blade has the sweet spot of a dime; you miss it and forgiveness almost non-existent, you will lose 10-15 at a VERY minimum. SGI clubs have a much larger sweet spot. I can hit a PXG off the far toe and only lose 5 yards max and a few mph in ball speed.”
- dcfas: “I recently switched to a bigger club head and find them more difficult to hit out of the rough.”
- nsxguy: “Bigger irons are generally more forgiving. That does NOT mean they’re ‘easier to hit’.”
- BMC: “It’s not just you. The clubs you use should “look good to you” which will inspire confidence.”
