In our forums, our members have been discussing the best non-Tiger performance from the Tiger-era. WRXer ‘the bishop’ kicks off the thread with his two candidates:

“2005 Accenture Match Play. Winner: David Toms. Anybody who thought Toms couldn’t dominate an event should have watched this one as he basically stomped everybody in his way to earn the title. One of the more underrated performances of this era IMO.

2007 Masters. Winner: Zach Johnson. To be clear, this was not the most scintillating Masters of all time. Far from it. But it was a master class by a guy who knew his strengths, weaknesses and limitations and had the discipline to stick to a game plan for 72 holes when there may have been a lot of temptation to do otherwise.”

Our members have been having their say in our forums, with plenty of memorable performances from the Tiger-era receiving recognition.

  • cdngolf: “Stephen Ames, 2006 Players. Dusts the field in the fifth major by 6. And only a few weeks after Tiger beat him 5 & 16 or whatever it was in the match play. Vijay, 2004. I don’t think people fully appreciate how incredible 9(!) wins in a season is.”
  • Old Tom Morris: “Zach Johnson had a great week in very unusual conditions for the Masters. Well done there. Retief Goosen managed two US Open victories in the middle of Tiger’s dominance.”
  • grm24: “Phil Mickelson winning the 2006 BellSouth Classic by 13 shots a week before he won his 2nd Masters.”
  • Hawkeye77: “Stenson, Open Championship, 2016.”
  • iBanesto: “Y.E. Yang an underrated victory. Only man ever to overhaul to beat Tiger, when Tiger held the 54 hole lead in a major. This was before the downfall.”
  • dan360: “Angel Cabrera, with a cigarette in one hand and brisket in the other…twice.”
