In our forums, our members have been discussing rare equipment items after WRXer ‘Rory4Pres’ created a thread dedicated to the topic. Our members have been discussing both the rare items they possess, and whether seeing another person with the same piece bothers them or not.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • JoeFrigo: “For me personally, it would bring together a conversation piece. I do like rare items, but I don’t care if I have something that is a 1 of 1. The Bettinardi Hive releases, everything SWAG Golf releases (especially the special headcovers you don’t expect) are all conversation starters. I buy things to use, not to sit on display. If it looks cool and I want it, I’m definitely going to use it.”
  • ARL67: “During the lockdown, I bought mint sets of MP-4 and Adams CMB. Though still readily available in the Classifieds, they might be “rare” in the sense that they are mint, but for now I just really like looking at them. I keep two bags of Mizuno as my gamers and also ordered some Wishon EQ1 SL heads, but I’ll put these all-time favourites in play once in a while.”
  • SubaruWRX: “I do have many rare clubs, and the worst part about it is sometimes I have a shot that’s going to abuse the clubs. If I break a rare club, how do I replace it? I wish the clubs I like didn’t happen to be rare. I’d rather have an abundance out there so I can replace anything I break or damage. And the price would be better too!”
  • dan360: “People don’t notice. My putter is rare; nobody cares. In face, I had a playing partner last summer ask me why I took such good care of a PING putter. So, of course, the WRX ho in me starts into this deep dive about what it is and the only part that he even acknowledged as ‘cool’ was when I was done with my 30-second dissertation.”
  • Stinger83: “Only for putters. I always Dig the idea of refinishing an old scotty or a custom MOTO. But I have a limit. I doubt I’d ever spend Martin guitar levels of money on a putter like a circle T. The putter is the most unique club in the bag, and I think most of us want it to reflect our favorite ‘look’ more than any other club. For me….that’s something like a circa 62 refinished black.”
