In our forums, our members have been reacting to Tony Jacklin’s comments last week that Sergio Garcia is “golf’s biggest underachiever” and that “Seve had more courage in his little finger than this lad”. WRXers have been weighing in with their thoughts on the matter with many defending the Spaniard.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • iBanesto: “Regarding Jacklin’s comment that Garcia did not win enough. Well, the guy couldn’t putt for a long time. He was never a consistent enough putter to close off majors. Being a ball striker doesn’t result in wins. Remember the miss on the 72nd hole at the 2007 Open?”
  • Hawkeye77: “Double-digit majors? Tony, Tony, Tony. How about just two or three which he probably “should” have already achieved. Seve, the guy he’s comparing him to, had 5 not 10 or more and Seve was more talented than Sergio. Hogan, Player, Watson, Trevino, Palmer, Snead, Faldo – there’s some guys a lot closer to reality in terms of talking double-digit majors in terms of “what ifs” and they were more singular talents than Sergio.”
  • Sean2: “Sergio is a great talent. Could he have won more? Probably. But, like all of us he has foibles. Saying Sergio should have done this, or done that could apply to every person on the planet. We all have regrets, we all wish we could have done x, y, or z differently. Judging Sergio for what he ‘could have’ done seems a bit hypocritical.”
  • dlygrisse: “Sergio is his own worst enemy.”
