In our forums, our members have been reacting to the news that Phil Mickelson will not play this year’s Masters tournament.
The Masters’ website confirmed on Monday that Phil would be a non-playing former champ this year, marking the first time in 28 years that Mickelson will be absent from the competition.
Our members have been having their say on the news, with the vast majority disappointed that Mickelson won’t be in action at the year’s opening major.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PowderedToastMan: “It’s a miracle Phil’s mouth hasn’t gotten him into this kind of trouble earlier. He’s been a big talker for 30 years in the public spotlight, and it really bit him in the a** this time. Sure wish we were watching him play at Augusta. His PGA win last year was incredible and excellent TV.”
- ProStryker: “I would think that if Phil wanted to make a return, that The Masters would have been the perfect place, as the folks at Augusta National are not going to tolerate hecklers and would squash all that pretty quickly. So Phil would be pretty protected on that front. So that makes me think that Augusta asked him not to come, as the media circus would distract from the prestigious event.”
- KrizistheMan: “It’s obvious Augusta told him to stay away. I personally think we won’t be hearing from Phil for quite some time I think. He’s still talking to Norman, but Phil’s literally burned every other bridge he had; no sponsors, no friends on tour, and no media support.”
- TheMoneyShot: “No surprise here. I wonder if he does the same thing for the U.S Open?”
