In our forums, our members have been discussing their ‘workhorse’ clubs. WRXer ‘Vater’ lays out the criteria saying, “which clubs are your go-to/old reliable/in play the most? (Besides putter of course.)” and gives his selections saying:
“Now, I use my 5 wood all the time (obviously on longer holes) – it’s like a reflex now where I just trust that club. And as I’ve gone with higher probability bump and run chipping instead of the perfect soft flop that I want to do so badly, my go-to wedge has become the 48*. And I think this is a good thing – I’m not necessarily always going to a certain iron; I’m really spreading use across all of them at the proper distances. Surprisingly, my answer to this question is 48* wedge and 5 wood.”
And our members have been sharing their picks in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Cellis: “I thought I would never say this, but definitely 2 iron off the tee. My driver consistency is very much lacking, so if I come across a shorter par 4, it is nice to have a fairway finder with some distance as well.”
- kmay__: “52 wedge is the workhorse for sure, anything like 85-110, and 90% of chip shots. 7 iron sees a lot of action on par 5 second shots after a good drive.”
- benthegolfer: “Callaway UW – I won’t ever be able to get rid of it.”
- courcy75: “PW for me. I can hit it between 95-130 depending on the shot required and feel confident. Very useful to have that club in your bag with South Florida winds lately.”
