In our forums, our members have been discussing mini-drivers. WRXer ‘bobfoster’ is considering adding a mini-driver to his bag, and kicks off the thread with two specific questions:
“1. Does it have permanent residence in your bag, or do you just use it now and then (depending on the course or something)?
2. How do you fit it into the 14 limit … i.e., does it replace the driver, or 3 (or other) FW? Or do you add it to the long end of the bag, but drop a wedge?”
And our members that play a mini-driver currently have been sharing their responses.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- adamwon84: “I replaced my 3 wood with a mini a few seasons ago and I do not see myself going back to a 3 wood. I don’t really need a 3 wood off the deck at the courses I play and when I do need one, I can still get the mini off the deck enough to give it a run on certain Par 5’s. For me, the mini driver gave me a good off the tee weapon for certain holes/courses that I play. The 3 woods I did have were fine clubs, but they wouldnt quiet get me to the spot I needed to be on the holes I would hit it where as the Mini gives me a bit more distance to get to that spot I need but without being too long where the driver would work. I also find that the forgiveness of the mini driver off the tee has been much better for me, so thats a nice plus.”
- rrheisler: “As others mention, it’s a 3W replacement for me. Carry four wedges, play 5-9 in irons, then the two UWs. Occasionally think about having a 19UW so I can put a four iron in play, but that’d be more course dependent.”
- bogeypro: “Mini has a permanent spot in my bag. I don’t really use a 3 wood off the ground… Mostly off the tee. I can hit it off the ground if needed. Then I go 5 wood turned down slightly. Then 4 iron.”
