How much GolfWRXers would pay to play Augusta National

In our forums, WRXer ‘bowilbury8’ has presented an intriguing hypothetical scenario to fellow members:

“Let’s say Augusta National decides to raise money for a charity by inviting 25 non-members to play there the week after the Masters. A lotto system so everyone gets a chance, and there is no bidding war. How much are you willing to pay for this once in a lifetime opportunity?”

Our members have been sharing their price to play the iconic golf course.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • volrus: “$2k without thinking twice.”
  • bowilbury8: “I bet if the price were 10k, there would still be a huge amount of people who would do it. Me included.”
  • jvincent: “I wouldn’t even think twice about $1k. I would probably need spousal approval to go as high as $5k.”
  • JimmyC59: “$1000. Couldn’t justify any more than that.”
  • Edward_MajorWin: “I’d happily part with 5,000 CAD … so for all y’all that would be $3,586.84 USD. Augusta is the only course I’d consider paying a ridiculous green fee to play. All the other ones, no matter how they rank, aren’t even in the conversation.”
  • Lobby: “$150. Golf is way overpriced already.”
  • johnnymc44: “Completely appreciate the setup you guys have with private/public golf courses. But because of the accessibility of the courses here in the UK I wouldn’t pay more than £250 ($310) for AN as I could get on the likes of The Old Course, most of the Royal courses, Open rota courses etc. for cheaper. Call me controversial, but I think they’re better than AN.”
  • dhartmann34: “Just had this discussion the other day with a friend. I said $5k, and he said $50k. He’s far more well off than I am, but I still don’t think I’d drop $50k…even if I were a lower level multi-millionaire. That’d go against almost every piece of advice I’ve ever given my clients. Not too mention there’s so much I could do for $50k. But if it’s an open bidding war, I think it’d certainly be in the $100k per person range for charity.”
